EXPOSURE
ACUTE HAZARDS/
SYMPTOMS
PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! AVOID EXPOSURE OF (PREGNANT) WOMEN!

  • INHALATION
  • Headache. Loss of sense of smell. Loss of coordination.
    Local exhaust or breathing protection.
    Fresh air, rest.
  • SKIN
  • MAY BE ABSORBED! (further see Inhalation).
    Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap.
  • EYES
  • Redness. Pain.
Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
  • INGESTION
  • Abdominal cramps (further see Inhalation).
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Give a slurry of activated charcoal in water to drink. Induce vomiting (ONLY IN CONSCIOUS PERSONS!). Refer for medical attention. Wear protective gloves when inducing vomiting.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Sweep spilled substance into containers. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place (extra personal protection: P2 filter respirator for harmful particles).
Provision to contain effluent from fire extinguishing. Separated from food and feedstuffs. Dry.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

    PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
CRYSTALLINE POWDER , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

    PHYSICAL DANGERS:
Dust explosion possible if in powder or granular form, mixed with air. If dry, it can be charged electrostatically by swirling, pneumatic transport, pouring, etc.

    CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating under influence of water, bases, acids, light. Upon heating, toxic fumes are formed.

    OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS (OELs):
    TLV not established.
    PDK not established.
    MAK not established.

    ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin and by ingestion.

    INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20░C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly.

    EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes. The substance may cause effects on the nervous system.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. The substance may have effects on the liver, kidneys and blood system. May cause genetic damage in humans. Animal tests show that this substance possibly causes toxic effects upon human reproduction.
    PHYSICAL
    PROPERTIES
    Melting point: 225-227░C
    Solubility in water: none
    Vapour pressure, Pa at 20░C: 8.1 x 10-7
    Relative vapour density (air = 1): 7.0
    Flash point: >230░C
    Explosive limits, vol% in air: 85 g/m3
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 4.7
    ENVIRONMENTAL
    DATA
This substance may be hazardous to the environment; special attention should be given to soil and water. In the food chain important to humans, bioaccumulation takes place, specifically in oil and fruits.
    NOTES
The substance is combustible but no flash point is available in literature. Carrier solvents used in commercial formulations may change physical and toxicological properties. Prinato is a trade name.
